“Childbirth is more admirable than conquest, more amazing than self-defense, and as courageous as either one.” – Gloria Steinem
During Pregnancy
Once you hire me as your birth doula I will be available to you by phone, text, or email 24/7. It is incredibly important to me that you feel fully supported throughout your pregnancy. We will meet prior to your birth. During this visit, we will focus on your wishes surrounding the day you give birth. We will discuss what matters most to you during the labor and birth of your baby, and the birth of you as a parent. During this meeting, I will listen attentively to you and determine how I can best support you through any challenges that may arise. Evidence based resources will be made available to you to support your wishes when possible.
During Labor
Once your labor has begun and you feel that you are ready for the extra level of support, I will join you either at your home or the hospital/birth center. I will be there to support you throughout the entirety of your labor. My goal is that my continuous presence brings comfort as I facilitate the hands-on practical support techniques that alleviate labor discomfort. Count on me to also bring a positive emotional energy to get you through the lengthy process of birthing a baby. Once your baby is born, I am available to assist with skin-to-skin and initial breastfeeding or bottle-feeding support. I am also happy to step back and take some photos of your first moments together, do some light cleaning, or prepare a quick snack for you. Once you feel ready (usually after 1-2 hours), I will leave you to enjoy your sweet new family member.
After Birth
I will be readily available in the days following your birth to answer any questions and provide resources, to ensure that you have the support you need as you settle in with your baby. Within the first couple weeks, we will schedule your postpartum follow-up visit. I want you to be successful and happy with your parenting choices, as well as having the resources you need to thrive. For this visit I will come to your home to check in, provide support with breastfeeding, and give you an opportunity to process your birth experience together.
